DSM WORKSHOP & PG STUDENTS CONVENTION ON DENTAL SLEEP MEDICINE
14th, 15th June, 2024
Venue:- Hotel Ashoka, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi
Theme:- Building the Future of Dental Sleep Medicine
Day 1 : 14 June 2024 : 9 am – 5 pm
Workshop in Dental Sleep Medicine
- Sleep medicine is the youngest specialty of medicine and dental sleep medicine is the fastest growing subspecialty of dentistry.
- Obstructive Sleep Apnea is the most common Sleep related breathing disorder affecting all sectors of population resulting in numerous comorbidities like cardiovascular, stroke, cognitive issues affecting the quality of life of individuals.
- Dentistry’s role is becoming increasingly significant in terms of Early Diagnosis for prevention, interception, and management. Dental surgeons are at a vantage point to screen and be the pivotal point for early diagnosis. Oral Appliances (OA) in general and adjustable mandibular advancement appliances in particular are considered as the standard care for mild, moderate obstructive sleep apnea and those severe cases that are not amendable to CPAP therapy or surgery.
- Despite the mounting evidence in favor of oral appliances our dental professionals are not yet adequately sensitized to manage OSA with oral appliances and similarly physicians are unaware of the role of dentistry in prevention and management of SDB and OSA.
At the end of the workshop the participants will be empowered with :
- Basic knowledge, physiology of sleep, pathophysiology of OSA and diagnosis with Polysomnography (PSG)
- Screening for OSA in a dental office & describe sign, symptoms, risk factors and co-morbidities of obstructive sleep apnea
- Requisite knowledge of treatment strategies in sleep disordered breathing
- Will be able to execute the clinical and lab steps in the fabrication of adjustable oral appliances.
- Oral, Poster & Table clinic presentation in Dental Sleep Medicine
